Microneedling
Microneedling is a skin treatment that uses tiny needles to create micro-injuries and stimulate healing and collagen production. It reduces the appearance of: scarring, fine lines & wrinkles, enlarged pores, hyperpigmentation & dark spots. This treatment will smooth uneven skin tone and improve the skins elasticity. This also includes our signature radiance revitalising facial to help prep and heal the skin.
Microneedling can also be performed on the body to help reduce the appearance of scarring and stretch marks.
Benefits of Microneedling
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, involves the use of fine needles to create micro-injuries in the skin. This process stimulates the body's natural healing response, leading to various skin improvements.
Here are the key benefits:
Mesotherapy with Microneedling
Mesotherapy is a targeted treatment which is placed onto the surface layer of the skin and combined with microneedling to give enhanced results. Mesotherapy has a mixture of skin rejuvenating, depigmenting, hydrating, firming, tightening and antioxidant ingredients to restore moisture and firmness and eliminate uneven skin tone (such as age spots, melasma and sun damage). Adding mesotherapy to your microneedling session will incur an additional charge of £10.
Pre-Treatment Instructions
Before your microneedling session, it's important to follow some pre-treatment instructions.
- Avoid sun exposure and tan beds for at least 1 week prior to your appointment. Wear SPF 50!
- Stop using retinoids, acids (such as glycolic, salicylic, or lactic acid), and other exfoliating products for 5 days before your treatment.
- Avoid certain treatments: No botox, fillers or other cosmetic injections for at least 2 weeks before your session. No facial tattoos, micro-blading or semi permanent makeup for at least 2 weeks before your treatment. Refrain from having any other facial treatments, such as microdermabrasion or chemical peels, for at least 2 weeks.
- Avoid blood thinners: Do not take aspirin, ibuprofen, or other blood-thinning medications and supplements for 24-48 hours before your appointment unless prescribed by your doctor (please let me know if you do have a prescription).
- Skip hair removal: Avoid waxing, depilatory creams, laser or electrolysis in the area to be treated for at least 1 week before your session.
- Make sure your consent form is filled out at least 3 days before your appointment and inform of medications, especially acne medication like Accutane, which should be discontinued for at least six months prior to a chemical peel.
Treatment Duration
A typical microneedling session at Refined lasts for 60 minutes. During this time, our experienced skin therapist will perform the treatment with precision and care to ensure optimal results.
Recommended Sessions
For optimal results, we typically recommend a series of 3 to 6 microneedling sessions. Treatments can be preformed 4-6 weeks apart. Consistency is key when it comes to achieving your desired skin goals, and our team will guide you through the process every step of the way.
Downtime and Side Effects
After microneedling, you may experience some redness, swelling, or peeling. These are common side effects and should subside within a few days. Our skin therapist will provide you with personalized aftercare tips to help minimize any discomfort.
- Redness and swelling: It’s normal to experience redness and mild swelling, similar to a sunburn, which should subside within 24 hours.
- Skin sensitivity: Your skin might feel sensitive, dry and tighter than usual.
- Peeling or flaking: This can occur as your skin begins to heal and regenerate.
- Immediate Results: While you might notice an immediate glow, the full benefits of microneedling will develop gradually over the next few weeks as collagen production increases.
Aftercare Recommendations
- Avoid sun exposure: Stay out of direct sunlight and apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen daily.
- No makeup: Refrain from applying makeup for at least 24 hours post-treatment to allow your skin to heal.
- Skip exercise: Avoid strenuous exercise, swimming, and saunas for at least 24 hours to reduce the risk of irritation and infection. Avoid excessively hot showers for 24 hours.

- No touching or exfoliation: Do not use exfoliating products or devices for at least 1 week to prevent irritation. Do not pick any flaky skin. Do not touch your face for 48 hours after microneedling to reduce the risk of infection.
